Understanding Karma

Karma is a Sanskrit word that means “action.” Karma has commonly been considered a punishment for past bad actions, but karma is neither judge nor jury. Rather, it is simply the universal law of cause and effect that says every thought, word and act carries energy into the world and affects our present reality. Karma can also refer to the “work” we have ahead of us, which includes lessons from both our past and present lives.

Part of our life’s work is to understand our individual relationship to the cosmos … to understand how the universe affects us. The energies our thoughts and actions produce can cover the entire planet, or even beyond, in the blink of an eye. An examination of karma offers clues about our intended life purpose, showing us the psychic imprint of past lives and mapping the way out of behaviours and thoughts that are no longer useful to us.

We are all here to learn lessons as “spiritual beings in human form”. These lessons are designed to help us grow into greater levels of love, joy, and awareness. They teach us to “choose love at every moment”, to “forgive everyone, everything”, and to “live happily”. Where we do not choose love, show forgiveness, teach tolerance, or display compassion, karma intervenes to put us back on the path of these lessons. Quite simply, the only way to achieve a state of karmic balance is to be love.

Karma gives you the opportunity at every moment to become open to greater levels of love and compassion. It operates impersonally: applying to everyone, all the time, and no exceptions. It is very logical: what you sow is what you reap in exact and precise measure. Karma is as predictable as the laws of gravity: what is done to you is the net result of what you have done to others.

The goal of karma is to give you all the experiences that you need to evolve into greater levels of love, joy, awareness, and responsibility. Karma teaches that you are totally responsible for the circumstances of your life. Karma is like “training wheels”. They keep you on the straight and narrow until you have mastered your vehicle and can ride freely on your own.

See that you are at the centre of the universe… Accept all things as being part of you… When you perceive that an act done to another is done to yourself… you understand the great truth. Tolerance opens the door to compassion and love.

Karma drives us from oneness to wholeness to unity with life. Karma forces us to look beyond ourselves  so that we can see ourselves as we truly are. Once we truly understand ourselves, we can see our divinity and our unity with all life.

Karma shows us that for any question love is the answer. Love is our birthplace, our final refuge, and our reason for being. If we recognize that compassion and love are the ultimate destination of our journey, the heart of the universe responds.

Through understanding your unique destiny, you can adjust your actions to either change an ongoing situation, or gain new perspective on a past situation so you can avoid making the same mistake twice. By understanding karma, you can unlock the patterns from past lives and show you how to use the laws of karma to consciously choose a better path for this life and the next.

Living – The Joy

How can we bring the joy of living into our lives? How can we make what is for most of us a tough life, a little more enjoyable?

When the happy times are scarce in our life we have to work at finding some happiness. We need to hold on to the happy moments that do occur. Whether the moment is a nice cup of tea or coffee, a smile from a friend or stranger, a thought of a loved one, a rest from hard work or a moment of laughter, we should hold on to these and make the most of them. We can take sustenance and strength from them as we see there is more to life than the pain and problems we are going through. We see a little light of happiness which brightens our day. We need to magnify that light so it brightens other areas of our life. We can recall the happiness while working our way through our current challenges.

A change of attitude can totally change the way we look at life. Changing our attitude can be like a miracle, it can change a situation completely. For example if we are in a disagreement with someone and we discover a new fact, it can change our mind about the whole situation.

We can also make a decision to look for and see the brighter side of the situation we are in. We can look to the goal of completing the challenge, solving the problem, fixing the situation or getting a task done. With this kind of approach or attitude we gain a more positive outlook on our situation. We begin to see that there will be an end to the problem or at least an improvement in our situation. We can sometimes see a glimmer of love shining through which often helps us get through our challenge and add to our joy of living.

Completing a challenge can bring a lot of satisfaction and add to our joy of living. If can see our issues, situations and problems as challenges and something we can get through, learn from and grow as people, we are putting ourselves on a positive path. We can now see that by getting through our tough times we will learn something and become better people. We will be stronger and able to deal with that problem if it comes up again.

Once we get one problem solved, we feel more able to tackle the next one. If we start with the small ones first and get some confidence in our ability to solve a problem we can then move on to the next one. Our confidence grows and our joy increases a little by little as we approach each challenge.

One of the secrets about love is that to get love we must give it. Love is an energy like electricity, unless it is switched on it stays dormant and unused. When we switch love on by giving love to someone or something, our love light comes on. The love we give brightens us and those around us.

This love is attractive; it attracts people as it is something we all crave deep in our hearts. Love also connects with the love in others hearts. We see a sparkle of love in a person and we begin to glow a little as we connect with or recognise the loving energy. We don’t even have to meet or connect with a person who sparkles with love, we can feel our heart brighten, lighten and glow.

To let love bring the joy of living into our lives, we have to let it flow through us. We have to keep the switch turned on. If we have been through tough times it can often switch our love off. We need to remind ourselves regularly to switch on our love and let it flow. It can be a challenge but with it switched on, our life will brighten and joy will return.

Friendship – Our Link to Love

One of the true treasures of life is friendship. There are many types and levels of which we experience as we go through life. Some friends stay with us throughout our life, some are with us for a short but significant time and some float in and out of our lives at different stages. These Souls help to bring the flow of love into our lives. They can inspire, motivate and educate us. They can be our link to love.

With our friends we can do a number of things like: support each other, have fun together, play games, achieve goals, give guidance, listen to each other, talk together, explore things, defend each other, be with each other, love each other.

Sometimes just being near a friend is enough to lift your spirits. Being near them brings a sense of joy and contentment. These feelings are different for each of our friends. No two are exactly the same.

Have you ever met someone for the first time but you felt like you knew them already? Have you experienced ‘love at first sight’ where you fall for a person the first time you see them?

What is going on here? If you look at life as a once of experience, falling for a complete stranger doesn’t make sense. If you consider the possibility of past lives then ‘love at first sight’ begins to make sense. If you knew and loved the person in another lifetime, it is perfectly natural to continue to have the same feelings for the same Soul when you meet them again in this life. This understanding can give us insights and help explain a lot of our relationships.

Some people have great communications with their pets and animals. These animals could be a pet dog or cat. A pet can very quickly become part of a family. It has its own space and personality and its various relationships with each family member. The love between animal and human is similar to that between human and human. Love comes from the same source; it is up to us to let it flow to those Souls around us. Very often the animal is there to teach us how to give love, so that we can open our hearts and let love flow a little more.

One of the things these different friendships bring is the joy of love into our hearts and lives, be they friends, family, pets or plants. Our friends are our link to love. This love links Souls together. These friendships create the flow of love through us and to us. Friendships can be our link to heaven.
